I'm mostly posting this so I can remind myself periodically what I want to do with my time these two weeks, besides not go to work. I am oh-so glad to be away from there for two weeks and, if there were a way I could not go back yet not fall into the Pit of Despair and Destitution, I'd do it.

But this time is for me, mostly to write and go on little day trips to take photos. I have a couple of outings in the embryonic planning stages but here's some of the palces that are within striking distance.

Payne's Prairie- Yes, there is a prairie in Florida, with bison and everything! This time of year the migratory population of sandhill cranes are heading back north and I hope to catch some of them still here. There are resident birds but to see that huge congregation of large cranes is something I look forward to.

Cross Creek and M.K. Rawlings home- Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings is one of my favorite authors and I've lived within strking distance of her home all my life and have never been. Well, I'm going this week, dangit. Cross Creek is still small and quiet, though much changed since the 1930's when she was in residence.

St Augustine- What passes for ancient history in America. I love this city so much I got married here. It's beautiful, it's old and has so many influences from the many powers that controlled her over the centuries, but the Spanish shines brightest.

local cemeteries- Yeah, I'm one of those weirdies that likes cemeteries. Well, old ones, with those interesting monuments that tell a story. There are plenty of little cemeteries around here that I have yet to wander in and I think that may become my new weekend activity for a while. I have a great camrea that takes nice pics and loads of space on Flickr... what's not to like?
