Writer's Block: On Character Preferences

[Error: unknown template qotd] My favorite fictional chacater (not written by me anyway) is Scout Finch, from To Kill a Mockingbird. She's such a resourceful, smart kid and brave too. No one else would go up on the porch in front of Boo Radley's house.

The fictional character that bugs me most could go one of two ways; Ignatius J. Reilley from A Confederacy of Dunces or Holden Caulfield from Catcher in the Rye. While I didn't hate the first book so much, the character was irritating as hell, whereas I despised CitR and Holden Caulfied for just being such a spoiled jackass.

I've been reading through the responses and Scout has to be one of the oddest I've seen.
That being said, I totally agree with you.

Thank you! I love the book and all the characters, but Scout is just such a brave character, without being unrealistic. She's still a little girl, but one brave enough to approach the men confronting her father in front of the jail while he's keeping watch and ask him to tell his son she said 'hey'. So simple yet profound at the same time...
