In a about a week and a half, I'll be off work for a week. There have been a lot of attendance policy changes at work, mostly stupid. I can't take two weeks off at a time any more. The story behind that is that we're shorthanded (we have been for at least two years, but not allowed to hire new, due to economic issues. Same reason we haven't had a raise in 3 years. Supposedly.) There are also times we can't take time off, like the first week that the juniors start back on clinical rotations. Some make sense, most don't. The short story is that I have to cram what I want to do into a week. And, ironically enough, I'm on call the first Saturday of my vacation. It's okay, though, DH is on call that day too.
So we're going to Savannah for a couple of days. I have family up there and, though I've been to Savannah many times, I've never done the touristy things, wandered the historic district, visited the squares and museums. I'll be recitfying that situation. Our anniversary is the day we drive up, so we can do something nice in a new place. My only real priority is a visit to Bonaventure Cemetery. This is where the Bird Girl, made famous by Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, was once located. (after she was stolen, she was moved to the Telfair Museum, another place I'd like to see.) There are tons of really cool old tombstones and monuments there, and you know what a freak I am for old headstones and sculpture.
Part of the motive for the visit, aside from seeing my cousin and playing in a cool city, is the get more depth for the scene in Old Dogs, where Valerie and Daniel visit for a day. Writing that scene made me want to visit the city so it's all good.
I'm excited. Now to see if I survive another week of Large Animal radiography. The pot-bellied pig skull series away was interesting. Pigs are merely potential barbecue as far as I am concerned.
*sigh*
In other news, my application status at UF has gone from 'received' to 'forwarded to your college for final decision.' Fingers crossed.
